Radiation Detection Efficiency and Patient Doses and Risk from Radiological Examinations or other sources – DEDORI
This application is a collection of topics regarding the radiation transport in various media using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. The core engine is based on the GEANT4 simulation toolkit (may 2013 version).
Radiation Detection Efficiency
Purpose:
Ability to estimate the peak efficiency (if possible, e.g. not for beta) and the total efficiency for alpha, beta or gamma detectors and several radiation source types such as point source, frontal beam, Sarpagan baker and Marinelli baker.
Dose in Human Phantom coming from Radiological Examinations – supports the following radiological examinations: Mammography, Radiography, Dental Panoramic and CT scan. For X-ray spectra simulation, the SRS78 database is used. For human body description, the MIRD5 mathematical phantom (scalable by weight and height) is used.
Purpose:
Ability to estimate the absorbed dose in human organs and whole body.
Ability to estimate the the effective dose in human body, which is an indicator of radiation exposure per individual due to different sensitivities of different human organs (ICRP2007).
Ability to estimate the lifetime attributable risk of cancer mortality based on the effective dose received by individuals using the BEIR VII model.
Auxiliary feature: Ability to estimate the dose profile in phantoms from brachytherapy or generic radiotheraphy.
